                    Hi Somethingwizard,
Is it possible to enter BIOS. If it is, restore it to its default settings. Is the mouse active on the black screen? Do you have a Windows installation DVD? If you do, try booting from it. If it boots normally, you may be facing a hard drive issue. If the laptop is under warranty, contact the manufacturer's support.
