If you can get AVG on your machine I find it best in safemode f8 with networking, one must have a connection. Clear your browser/cookies/cache/temp files I then go to the add/remove on your control panel look for AR ware...things that should not be there and remove the same. While I'm there I check for redistrubutables/ windows installer 3.1 or above .netframework 3.5 then I look for other versions of antivirus on the system including secuirty essentials using their removal tool I take them off. Now you can install AVG and like sliced bread run this fantastic rootkit killer in safe. If you can't get this far I use an adaptor taking the infected hard drive plug it into my laptop download the lastest definitions and plug er-in. go to the drive in question on my computer right mouse er find your SCAN with AVG and give it some time to complete might as well run a chkdsk and defrag while your at it.
Maleware bytes is not like ms security essentials its takes too many resources and misses too many adwares...besides it is not so compatible. Get your service pacs and redistributables up to date lay your ground work; windows installer, 3.5.netframework. One doesn't need a bunch of cluter or programs on start up (msconfig) just neither a bunch of short-cuts on your desktop use your R mouse to pin them where they go. If you have programs your don't use disable them - on your internet explorers tool bar drop down to mange add ons disable those program/tool bars you don't need also at this point I disable things like Google tool bar because like another antivirus it interferes with the ability for AVG to do it's job; another program is interrupting it. I love Google but it is in my favorites..
If your still having troubles your have files in the wrong places and one needs to do some regedit modifications I suggest you find someone who knows what he's doing.
