After I type my password & welcome icon screen goes blank

I have a HP pavilion dv6 and windows 7 installed , after I start my laptop everything is normal with the display , I type my password & then the icon of welcome appears but after that the screen goes black & only the mouse arrow is visible , what do I do ?? Plz help asap

It looks like your operating system is corrupted. Try to boot in safe mode and tell me if you get the same black screen.
