Msn messenger problem

i hope you can help me!
i was on msn messenger and an update come up for the new windows live messenger and automatically did it. all of a sudden the whole of my msn wasnt working. i tried to download it again but it says i have a newer version already on my laptop. i did a search through the whole of my laptop; on my programs and on my local disk and a computer search but nothing came up. its not allowing me to do download any version on messenger due to problem 1603.????
i dont know what else to do!!
