I can not sighn into windows live v9

Hello, I have recently installed windows live messenger v9 on my computer, and after about it week it stopped sighning me in. when i ran the troubleshooter it said there is a problem with my hosts file, that there could be files in there that could be interfearing with my name or something like that.

the repair feature didn't work, how do i go about clearing the hosts file?

running windows XP

easyestest soulution lol is to uninstall and reinstall windows live 9

I tried that before, didn't work.

welll the only problem i can see other wise from tat your fire wall blocking you from signing in
