says hdd is missing. went into bios it shows sata prim and sata seco unknown, as well as the other two, shows the floppy as well as the cd/dvd. dell 8300 desktop win xp pro. am able to use f8 but the repair options is not there. if left on win cont tries to start thru f8 screen. have took hd out and in. do not have disc. thanks in advance

It appears that your hard disk has failed and needs to be replaced. Perhaps you need to take the PC to a local repair shop. Since it needs "hand-on" access to diagnose the exact problem.

Hi weezie,
If your hard drive is not detected in BIOS, it is highly possible that your drive has failed. I recommend you to change hard drive’s cable and restore BIOS to its defaults. If there is no change, open the case, disconnect the drive and connect it to another PC. If it is not recognized even there, I would recommend you to change the drive.
