Hi Walter,
Do you have valuable data on the drive? Is formatting it an option? I recommend you to check the drive on another PC and with another USB cable. Open the drive manufacturer’s web page and search for some diagnostics tools. Check the drive and if it appears At Risk, I would recommend you to change it. If it has warranty, contact the seller.
