Blue screen that tells me my PC NEED Repair

My fiancee gave me my lap top, and shortly there after passed away. I have no paperwork, manuals, disc or anything to guide me through what is wrong in order to fix!!
it turns on goes to a Blue screen that tells me my PC NEED Repair It gives 3 options and the only one that does anything takes me to the Set Up Utility with 5 tabs across the top, Unfortunately, I don't know what to do at this point.
A friend downloaded recovery disc but, it won't read the recovery disc, I'm on a hamster wheel...
Please help!!
