Hello,
If the icon is present in the application drawer, you just have to long press on it and to place it on your screen.
If not, you have to install a Messaging application from the Play Store

On the Home screen, the bottom-center button, represented with dots, allows you to see applications. First of all, check if your SMS application is not here. If not, you had to go to the Play Store ("shopping bag" icon) and search for SMS application. The default one, provided by Google, is called Messenger: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging&hl=fr
