Hp stuck on start screen

Hello,

I have a HP Pavilion laptop, out of warranty and I don't have the disks.

2 days ago I installed norton antivirus and ran a full scan. It said 1 issue found, then switched itself off. Since then it freezes as soon as I turn it on, on the Hp screen with the little circle.

I have tried switching on and pressing escape which gives me 5 options. I have run diagnostic tests and found hard drive short dst failure (qcxf7k-71d856-mfpwxa-60tm03) System recovery will not work

I would like to restore to an earlier date but can't seem to do that from this screen? Any suggestions? Do I need a new hard drive?
