Dvd//cd rom icon can not display as drive

Hello,

Sir CD ROM/DVD icon can not display in the my computer location, when insert a DVD/CD in CD ROM it is rotating &stopped but we can't get information from the CD it is normally stopped.
My laptop Acer 2420 travel mate& os is windows xp.
