Hello,
i just bought mcafee live safe but ended up on a fake activate page where you enter your name phone number then activation code which wont work then you get the call mcafee technician to help you sort out problem they then take over your laptop after 15 minutes they phone back telling you you have a virus they want money to sort it mcafee is now up and running but would it be safe for me to use laptop say for banking or buying from certain sites

safe? I don't think so.

I suggest you restore the laptop to its factory state and start over again.

if i put my old computer back on should this still be safe

It will be safe if you have a proper antivirus and firewall.

Before you reset to factory settings, if you wish for me to make security analysis of your machine, let me know, I would be able to determine what would need to be done to make your machine safe for internet.
