You are out of luck ! The licence is for one and only one computer, hence you must purchase the license from Microsoft. Seems that your deceased friend was not much of a friend.

Yes, it would be a brand new package. I recommend that you discard it. You can no doubt purchase a new package at your local software store, however, since your computer is old, there is a similar free version called OpenOffice which as a word processor, spreadsheets and much more:

Thansk again does that mean now I should do it before the 01/02/2017 and is it a completely different package without excell , word etc. Or is it user-friendly to somebody illeterate like me. Lastly how do i discard the message so as to downlod it. or is it not possible that I can download it now so that when this expirers I have it already, and Iit will take over

Hi I managed to get it at the back of my computer under. I capture it and it goes smmothly and the dashes are following but after the last charactors it does not accept if leave this message:- THIS KEY DIDN'T WORK, PLEASE CHECK IT AND TRY AGAIN, OR TRY A DIFFERENT KEY"

You cannot locate the key on the computer, the key was written on a card. I repeat you must purchase the licence or use OpenOffice for free. On Feb 1st your Microsoft Office software will cease to function.
