I'm on a desktop running Vista 64 bit. My sound system is Altec Lansing/Realtek driver. The other day after using Skype my sound disappeared. Vista thinks it is working, everything checks out, there are no yellow ?s, everything that is supposed to have a green check mark does. I'm at my wits end as I've more than triple checked everything. Some of the numerous things I've done just to cover the standard recommendations:
Made sure everything was plugged in and in the right place.
Rebooted (time and time again).
Made sure the volume wasn't muted anywhere.
Checked to make sure everything in Device Manager was listed as working properly.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling from Device Manager to no avail.
Tried testing the speaker under the configuration, again Vista thinks I should be hearing sound but I'm not.
I've tried all jacks, even the ones I knew it wasn't, many times, both on the front or back of the box.
The speakers I use on my desktop I've plugged into my laptop and they work. I've also tried other devices such as headphone and still get nothing.
