HP p6230y has a black screen

My HP desktop has a completely black screen with a small flashing light in the top left corner. It will turn on, but the only screen I am able to get is the black screen with a little underscore looking thing in the corner. It is completely unresponsive to any keys i press on the keyboard. The only thing I am able to do is turn the computer on and off. Please help!
