Over heatting problem

Hello,
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L550-10N and it gets very hot while am working some times it will switched off by itself. what is the problem? i will be glad if i could get anybody who could help me to prevent this heatting problem. Thank you in advance.

More then likely the vents are clogged up with dust.

i suggest you purchase a can of air and give it a good blast out.

if youre feeling savvy you could remove the flap from the bottom and see if you can get any dust out from there.

also,

if the fan is at the bottom of the laptop i'd suggest not to cover this up when its on your lap.

i know that HP are stupid enough to put the fan on the bottom.

the fans of all laptops are at the bottom if im right O.o

Thank you both kieferschild and Aud21. i will try to remove the dusting problem may be that could reduce the heating problem. am also avoiding direct contact to a table by putting it in a book or some other standing material.
