Hello,

I have an older Vistro Dell about 4 years old running Windows Vista. The CD/ROM is suddenly missing from the device manager. I have tried deleting the low and high filters from the registry, I've rebooted from the bios and nothing has helped. I've tried all of the tricks I could find while searching the problem. The machine simply does not recognize the drive any longer. There is a disk in the drive, but the laptop cannot eject it.
I would appreciate any ideas anyone may have.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can give a try to this Faq:

https://ccm.net/faq/4135-vista-how-to-fix-missing-cd-rom-dvd-drive

If still not working and as mentioned its not ejecting cd then for me its a dead drive. As for the cd in it you can remove it by inserting a pin in the hole found near the ''eject '' button and pull the bay .

Thanks
