Black screen Windows did not start successfully

When I start up my hp mini it shows a message saying Windows did not start successfully. But when i click "start Windows normally" it begins to load then stays on a black screen. if i choose "last known good configuration" it loads, flashes a blue screen, and then goes back to the unsuccessful start screen. Previous to this situation i simply did the automatic updates then restarted the computer. thats when the trouble started. does my computer have a virus? And how do i fix this problem?
