Emails in Trash

Why are some emails going directly to Trash even though the senders are in my contact list?

Well, what type of email client are you using? Check for rules against the folder. Are they going into trash, or junk?

Thank you for your response. It went into the Trash folder. I am using gmail and only recently became aware that there was a Trash folder as it was not being displayed. Some mail going to trash is from people on my contact list and from whom I receive mail that does not go to Trash.

OK, so find them in the trash, and mark them as not trash from the sender.
