Google Maps: The new 'Glanceable' navigation feature will make your travels hassle-free

Embark on a more intuitive journey with Google Maps' latest feature, "Glanceable directions while navigating." This highly anticipated addition aims to simplify your travel experience by providing real-time route guidance without the need to enter traditional navigation mode. It is probably a much safer and enjoyable option when you are traveling and want to look around you and not at your phone.

Google Maps has been diligently enhancing its user interface to make navigation more accessible. The platform underwent a significant overhaul, particularly in route searching, to infuse a modern touch and enhance overall ease of use. Among the awaited features announced in February 2023, "Glanceable directions while navigating" has finally made its debut in the stable version of the application. This feature elevates the user experience by displaying comprehensive route information, including estimated arrival time and turn-by-turn directions. Finally, these details are presented directly on the route preview or even on the lock screen, ensuring real-time updates. So, you don't need to constantly concentrate on your phone when walking in a new direction.

"With glanceable directions, you can track your journey right from your route overview or lock screen. You'll see updated ETAs and where to make your next turn — information that was previously only visible by unlocking your phone, opening the app and using comprehensive navigation mode. And if you decide to take another path, we'll update your trip automatically. These glanceable directions start rolling out globally on Android and iOS in the coming months, and will also be compatible with Live Activities on iOS 16.1." says Google in its official press release.

It's worth noting that, by default, the "Glanceable directions while navigating" option is deactivated, possibly to adhere to privacy regulations requiring consent for personal data collection. Once activated, this feature dynamically updates trip information, whether navigation has started or not.

As with any new rollout, the "Itinerary in the blink of an eye" feature is gradually reaching users, so patience may be required before all can enjoy its benefits. However, rest assured, the wait promises to be short-lived! Upgrade your Google Maps experience with this innovative feature and make your travels even more seamless and enjoyable.
