New to Netflix need information on cost and is there TV viewing?

We have had cable and are researching about Netflix and don't know where to start, but need the information on cost, do you publish a 'program' so we know what is on there? People talk about the shows they watch and when asked these questions it is the usual 'Oh we are on with our kids/my family/a friend.' As we 'over 80's' need more clues as to what can and can't be done. Thanks, Carole
