Hi everyone,

I had an old sony vaio laptop with a broken screen so decided to get a new one from eBay. First, the one they sent was faulty because it had a mark on the screen, so I sent it back. But the screen did turn on and work. When I got the new one nothing showed up on the screen at all. I plugged in the original broken screen (which normally showed some lines and marks) but still nothing. When I plug in an external monitor it works fine. On both the old broken screen and the new one, not even the backlight would come on. I shined my phone light on the screen and it showed the VAIO logo and window logo when the laptop boots, but then it goes blank.

When I go into the setting to make sure the laptop screen isn't just disabled, its set to "duplicate screen".

Also, the laptop is running a clean install of Windows 10. It originally ran Windows 7. I don't know if that makes any difference.

I've tried to update drivers in the device manager too, but that hasn't worked.

I would appreciate any help,

Adam

Thank you
Hi

When you see the VAIO logo and window logo with your phone light, it's because the screen's back lights must be replaced.

Explain: "there is something on the screen." If it's writing in green, it does not need a back light because it's led. HTML and Windows need back lights.

Software has nothing to do with a screen or monitor.

I suggest that you have purchased another screen faulty back light . (Why would one find laptop screens on eBay, why not the entire laptop)

after resetting the pc, everything is showing on the screen. But still no backlight. I don't think it's the screens problem because both screens aren't working. Could it be the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard? If so, is there a way I can check that that's the problem?

Yes it could very well be, but without having my hands on the machine I cannot tell.

I suggest a quick walk to a repair shop.

Good luck and God Save the Queen.

Fixed it finally. Turns out the fuse for the backlight was blown. I used a really small wire to bridge the fuse and it works perfectly now.
