Hello,
I am getting the following error whenever I try to start up my computer. OS - Windows xp professional
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\system32\config\system.

Nothing works that was sugested on this forum. The machine does not start up in safe mode the same error is displayed. Using the Windows xp professional cd does not help either ... It will not allow me to reformat, nothing works.

I am thinking the hard drive is really messed up and probably need replacing.

Any sugestion will be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Hello you will have to do system restore!

When you pc is starting just press F8, Select Safe mode and press Enter.
Once you are on safe mode then you will be asked if you want to do system restore!
Select a date when your pc was working fine!
Let the process to be completed and restart your pc!

Hi
Thanks for responding. I tried that already and it is doesn't work. Any other suggestion. The other error I get sometimes is :
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drivs are powered on and properly connected t your computer, .and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setp cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

I am thinking my motherboard is shot and I need to get a new one.....
