Poor laptop, what a pity! It deserves compassion.
I can't see any solution other than wait for windows its opening process with all 54,000 files and then delete all of them...The only other way, I think of, you would find much more displeasing as you would lose all of your data.

YOu could pull the HDD, and put it behind another OS, and clean it up that way. Then the disk will not have to worry about compute, only file system.
Or map a network drive to it, and move it with another PC!
