Thank you for your prompt post in response to my query, my apologies for a very tardy response.
I was surprised to find that HP was still providing this information. Far too much older information has been removed from the database of the current poor shadow of the real HP. I downloaded the scanner driver using the URL supplied, installed the 'new' driver, and my problem went away!
