Setting ringtone the phone turns off

When I am trying to set ring tone the phone is getting switched off and the ringing calls tone is not heardable I tried to restart the phone also but my attempt is unsuccessfull and this phone is a three yeara old model nokia phone

It sounds like the sound is corrupted, or in the wrong format to be used as a ringtone!
