Laptop screen

Got an old Asus laptop, had it for a few years now. Broke the screen a few days ago so I'm not trying to hook it up to an old LG flatron w2243t monitor i have. Got it plugged in through d-sub but the monitor won't say anything except switching to power saving mode.

Ok after you plug the monitor in, and trun it on, press windows key and p. You should see a menu selection. Select duplicate.

Oops, I am assuming the OS supports it. What os is it?
