Laptop not switching on after changed battery

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 laptop. I have changed the battery & switched it on, but nothing happens. When I switch it on, I can see the power light, but after, the laptop just kicks back into charging.
Please advice on what else I should look into.
