Hello, sometimes this file is hidden. Try and change view options to see all files and hidden system files, and then change permission of the recovery folder.
Alternatively, one user claimed to have found it here: C;\Windows\System32\Recovery\
Further solutions have previously been given inthis forum post.
Let me know if that helps.

Plug your USB flash drive and run Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool, click “Browse” button to choose your source file. ...
Choose USB device as your media type.
Insert your USB drive to the working computer and select it. ...
PS.: Your USB will be formatted during this process.

Thank you David Webb,
I followed ccm.net instructions to the letter, even the view options and unraveled the backslash puzzle. The only *.wim file on this system is (below):
FirstUXRes.WIM in C:\Windows\winsxs\AMD64...
What are Win7 release and Update levels to obtain?:
C:\Recovery\486aab42-cf02-11de-be22-c44fb1debe9d\winre.wim
Thanks again,
