Can't turn off recent items list

It's the default view in the Mac OS finder window and it annoys me every time I see it. I saw a post elsewhere in here showing how to turn it off in Catalina, which was the first thing I tried when my new MacBook Pro arrived last week, but it does not work.

Does anyone know how to turn off recents in the Finder window?

Hello, go to your finder, then to preferences.


You should be able to chose which tab / folder pops up first.
