Good morning to all,

I use a Rode NT mic for voice recording.
And I was told that the use of a sound card (even a simple entry one) would improve a lot the quality of my wav files before I export them.
I would appreciate if I can get the opinion of an expert about this, and if you can explain why with simple words (I am not a musician nor a technician, I just do voice-over).
Thank you very much in advance for your reply.

Hello, seeing that your microphone is pretty good quality I imagine that the audio quality of your recordings is already fairly high.

If you have a bad microphone and a good sound card, the audio quality will still be as good as the microphone.

If you have a good microphone and a bad sound card, then the audio quality will be okay.

If you have a good microphone, and a good sound card, then the audio quality will be good.

To get the most out of your already decent microphone, getting a good sound card would be a good idea.

Thank you David, but what I am interested in is to know how it improves the quality of the audio files and so what is the purpose of having a sound card.

You can have a look at this old article about Sound Cards, which will give you a little more info.

We also have this more detailed guide to Sound Cards, here.

I have just read them now, thank you, but not really helpful either for me.
Thank you anyway.
