Hi,
Try the combination Fn + F4 to switch between your laptop screen and your external monitor.
If this doesn't work, turn off your laptop and connect the external monitor, then turn it on and try again the keys combination if the external monitor is still not detected.
Otherwise, try updating the video card drivers.
