My friend has just acquired an iPhone 10 after previously running her what’s app account on an android phone. She proceeded to download the what’s app from the Apple store to recreate her account on her iphone. She instantaneously got the verification code from whats app but the text came I think from a telephone in Russia (+7 995 83068 50). Would that be genuine ? Thanks for advice anyone.

Hi,

Considering that your friend requested a verification code from the official WhatsApp app, and got it almost immediately, then the phone number should be genuine.

However, make sure the SMS only contains a 6-digit code and a link starting with v.whatsapp.com. If this is the case, you can trust that message and activate your account.
