I have updated my fingerprints in the past. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled WhatsApp. Neither of these have helped.
There are two methods I'm using to close out WhatsApp and on May 3 I discovered that it definitely does make a difference in whether WhatsApp requires the use of the fingerprint unlock.
1) If I close out WhatsApp by swiping it away from the recently used apps tray, then most of the time, the next time I open WhatsApp, it bypasses the fingerprint unlock requirement. It does seem that if I wait longer, it results in a more frequent requirement of me using fingerprint unlock.
2) If when I'm in WhatsApp I just hit the home button to go to my home screen, it ALWAYS requires me to go through the fingerprint unlock system to enter WhatsApp. Even if after going to the home screen I open the recently used apps and swipe away WhatsApp, when I relaunch WhatsApp it requires the fingerprint to enter it.
At this point, my finding that leaving WhatsApp by going to the home screen fixes the problem is good enough for me. I'm kinda tired of working on this issue. I've tried a million things in the past year on it. I'm ready to move on.

Hi,
Check the settings of your Pixel regarding the app lock. You may find an option that set the delay before your fingerprint or code is required when you open a locked app.
If you're using the fingerprint lock feature directly with WhatsApp, make sure that it is enabled and that the "Automatically lock" option is set to "Immediately".
Hope this helps.

HelpiOS,
Regarding "You may find an option that set the delay before your fingerprint or code is required". There is such a setting within WhatsApp. As I wrote in my original post, "I've got fingerprint lock enabled, and set to immediate." So the delay is set to immediate. Or put another way, zero seconds.

Ok - In that case, it seems that's a bug with your WhatsApp app...
Try removing the registered fingerprints and turning the feature off, restarting your phone and then turning it back on.
If the issue persists, turn off again the fingerprint lock feature, then back up your data - and uninstall/reinstall WhatsApp.
Good luck

Today, I found that if I leave WhatsApp by just going to the main page and then return to WhatsApp, it always requires the fingerprint unlock to get back in as it should. This says that there is something about closing WhatsApp via the recently used app tray method which is not right.
