Hello,

I had Windows Defender Threat Found, but when I choose to clean the threat, remove it, etc., it reappeared and wasn't removed.
Windows / Chrome 109.0.5414.120

Hi,

Try performing an offline scan with Windows Defender. Go to SettingsUpdate & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.

Select Scan options > Microsoft Defender Offline scan > Scan now.

Alternatively, try performing a scan in Safe Mode. If Windows Defender is still unable to remove the threat, try with another antivirus.

Good luck.

Hey there!

If you're having trouble removing a threat detected by Windows Defender, here are a couple of steps you can try:

  1. Update Windows Defender: Make sure you have the latest updates for Windows Defender. Sometimes, a new update may include fixes for known issues, including difficulties in removing threats.

  2. Perform a full scan: Run a full scan with Windows Defender to thoroughly check your system for any potential threats. This may take some time, but it will help identify and eliminate any malicious files or programs that may be causing the issue.

  3. Restart your computer: After performing the scan, try restarting your computer. Sometimes, a simple restart can help resolve minor glitches and enable Windows Defender to remove the threat successfully.

  4. Use an offline antivirus scanner: If the threat persists, you can try using an offline antivirus scanner. These scanners run outside of the operating system, which can help in removing stubborn threats that may be hiding or resisting removal within the Windows environment. Popular options include Windows Defender Offline, Kaspersky Rescue Disk, and Bitdefender Rescue CD.

  5. Seek further assistance: If none of the above steps work, it might be worth reaching out to Microsoft Support or visiting their community forums for additional guidance. They have experts who can provide specific instructions based on your situation.
