My On/Off switch button not working.

Hello,

My laptop On/OFF switch is not working. Now I need plug-out and plug-in battery in order to switch on my Dell Inspiron 6400. This has to be done without power cord plug into my laptop. It is unable to ON my laptop with power cord plug into my laptop although it can do the charging. Please advice which component of my laptop wear off. Thank you.
