Hp laptop screen stopped work

Hello,
My screen on my hp laptop froze while in use. Now my latop screen is not working at all. when it starts up it makes the usually sounds and flashing lights but the screen is not working at all. Has anyne any ideas on how to fix this? Or does it have to be brought somewhere to be fixed?
I've tried runnng the laptop off the mains and the battery, mains with no battery, battery with no mains, not working.
