Dell computer wont load past windows display

Hello,
kids tried to load media creator on mu laptop. now it wont do anything but load to the windows display only (wont load to password or user names ) I can get in safe mode but it takes me to a highlighted saying windows media player ( I think it may have said something else but i'm sure it said somehthing about media ) anyway i found the disk they used and tried to in stall it I got tha same result.. i tried everything i could and nothing seemed to work.. I also tried a diagnosis in safe mode everything passed up to something about a wire being hooked up.. im at a lose to this and any help would be better then nothing.. ialso cant find any software or restore disk or anything for the laptop which is about 3 years old.. maybe there is a software online i could use to restorer the computer but im not sure.. helppppp!!!!!!

I have tried that ..start>f8>safmode>it takes me to a high lighted bar that says ( windows xp Media Center Edition) with no other options >> all options in safe mode give me the same option= (windows xp Media Center Edition) clicking on it takes me to the windows display before the screen names login & password screen but stops at that point..

You just try to restore your system to an earlier date!
Start your Computer,
Pres F8 immediately to access safe mode
Press Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools ----> System Restore Open it and then select a date when your pc was working normally. then press next Let the process to be done
Restart your machine normally
This will solve the problem
