Black screen with cursor

Hello,
I have a Dell Latitude laptop and I have Windows XP. I went to turn on my computer last night and it started up but then I just got a black screen with a cursor. I tried everything I thought was possible and nothing worked. The Welcome screen doesn't show up, It's just the black screen with a movable cursor(That doesn't flash). I tried pressing the SHIFT key 5 times and nothing happened. Please help me fix this problem. I need my laptop.

Hello,

May be your system is infected or corrupted!

I will advise you to restore the system

System Restore:

Press F8 when you start the laptop and select safe mode

Press Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools ----> System Restore Open it and then select a date when you we not infected
then press Next
Let the process to be done
Restart your machine normally
This will solve the problem
