Dual monitor/control panel disaster

Hello,
I have a laptop and the screen went out so I plugged in a new monitor but then when I was trying to fix my resolution I accidently clicked on screen 2 as my main screen so now I can't see anything on either screen.
I read that I should be able to go into safe mode and then go to control panel and change the display back. But now for some reason when in safe mode my control panel list won't open. It just acts like it searching but doesn't do anything...

PLEASE HELP!!!
