DLink modem will not connect to Linksys Routr
Closed
Hello,
I am on ATT DSL and just replaced my old Westell Modem with a newer D-Link modem (2320B). My network includes a Linksys wired Router BEFSR41 and Linksys WRT54G wireless router set as an Access Point (DHCP disabled). My network (wired and wireless) is connected to two Apple laptops (OS X), one HP Laptop (Vista Premium), one IBM Laptop (XP Professional). and one Apple desktop. When I replaced my Westell modem with the D-Link, I ran the install software using the automated connection procedure. I can access the internet through the one port in the back of the modem. However, when I connect the modem to my router, there is no signal through the router. When I try to ping the modem through the router, it is unsuccessful. When I do a status on the router, I noticed that the router IP address and Gateway have the same values. Is this correct? If not, how do you fix this? I assume this is set by the modem, right? The router IP address is 192.168.1.1 and the modem's address is 192.168.2.1 (default is 192.168.1.1). I was told that the modem and router cannot be on the same subnet. I've set the IP address range on the router to between 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.150.
As I mentioned before, I had a functioning network with my old Westell modem. I can't figure out why the D-Link modem will not work. Help!!!

ok, looking at the manual for dsl 320B (uk model)
if you set up your hardware as follows.
1 modem - 192.168.1.1 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
2 router - 192.168.1.2 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and enable dhcp on your router. ( this will also be known 3 as your default gateway)
4 wrt54g - 192.168.1.3 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
5 set all other equipment as 'obtain ip addresses automatically.
once these have been set, shut all your equipment down.
power up in this order
modem - let it go thru self tests etc until all lights are lit that need to be.
router - again wait a while for it to initialise and all lights are lit.
wrt54g - let it initialise and all lights lit.
each computer in turn, test before the next one is powered up.
give that a go.
