My Dell Latitude C840 works only with one moe

Hello,
My Dell Latitude C840 works only with one memory card. It is not able to recognize second memory module, even when I switch memory modules between 2 slots. For example, my 512MB module works in either slot (so as 256MB module), but when I put them both, it is not able to detect 768MB of RAM. If I put 2 modules of 256MB it is able to detect only one of them. Does anybody have an idea what is going on? I did upgrade BIOS to the latest version, A13...

dear sir,

This is because the 2 memory modules are of different frequencies,

that's why it will read only 1 of them!

i will advise you to use memory modules of the same frequency

Hi,

Unfortunatelly I use 2 exactly the same modules. Even more, I went to Best Buy today to buy another 2 identical memories (512MB each). My laptop is always able to recognize only 512MB (only one). Either module works in either memory slot, but not together.
