Computer sees lan modem but no internet

Hello,

I just got a new motherboard(AMD sEMPRON pROCESSOR le-1100). i hooked up USB cable from the Motorola Surfboard SB 5101 Modem which is hooked to Cox. I show a LAN connnection that is enabled and firewalled(turned off firewall tried internet nothing). I thought this setup automatically connected to internet.
In Network Connections I show the LAN but no network or internet symbols like I have on my other desktop.

I don't know where to go from here. Can't find why internet signal coming into USB and computer is not allowing browser to start. I have gone through every option in firefox.

What is next? What is wrong?

Are you using both the Ethernet output port AND the USB port at the same time? These modems normally have only one of the two output ports active.
