Updated Web Browsers Can't Connect Closed

Question

Hello,
I am using a msi Wind u100 netbook which I've had for about 6 months.  For this entire time I cannot update my web browser.  The only one that works is IE 6.1.  Not Firefox, not even IE 8.  Everytime it says I have a firewall problem.  I've tried everything and can't get it to work.  I'm getting pretty desperate .  Any help would be really appriciated.

I've gone into my firewall settings and made exceptions for the ports, I've shut down the firewall and I've made exceptions for the program.  I'm not really sure what else I can do, if anything.  Each time I get the same can't connect response but it works fine for the older web browser.
