Switching laptop to tv

Hello,
i have a samsung tv and a gateway laptop i connected both using the hdmi cable but im unable to see the computer screen on the tv i called samsung and they say that their a key on my laptop to press to switch and they dont know it

Look for a function key F1-F12 that also has CRT/LCD printed on it (or a icon of a CRT) then press Fn + that key. My Dell uses F8 and my Compaq uses F3 - each manufacturer uses a different set-up. You might also need to activate the HDMI sound support using the sound panel in "Control Panel".
