Laptop screen black

Hello,
everytime I start up my laptop it does everything normal then it will tell me there was a problem with it and say it was most likely due to a recent hardware or softwear change. I don't think I ever did anything with that. when I press start like normal it will go back to that screen and if I press fix the problem it will load up and then just show me a black screen with the cursor. Sometimes it wont show me that screen but just go to the black screen with the cursor. What should I Do?

Can you boot into "safe mode" (use F8 during the beginning of the boot process)?
