Go to hardware on My Computer - System Info, and select your sound card. Go to driver and select uninstall. Reboot your machine and you will get a "found new hardware" message. It will reinstall the driver automatically if one is available. Otherwise you would have to go to your manufacturer's CD or web site if it is some special sound card. Only other thing I've seen is where your configuration is specifying a 32 bit card but you only have a 16 bit card. You should be able to change on the same config screen.
