Nokia 5800/Mac 10.3.9 a match made in Hell!!!

Hello,
Here is little problem that has been a serious puzzle to everyone i have asked....
Bought a new Nokia 5800...Great phone...Great Camera, video etc...
Went to put music on it and when USB cable is plugged into my Mac OS X 10.3.9 it does not recognize the phone/memory card...
Have tried everything from card readers, to popping the 8 GB card into my daughters old express music phone and it still cant read it..Also tried Bluetooth but this does not work either...
I know the Mac is probable too old, but can anyone think of a way of either upgrading the software on MAC to 10.5 (my workmate has this on her work MAC and it can read the memory card when its in the card reader)...or coming up with a way the information on the 8GB memory of the phone can be accessed..
Help!! I love this phone but it is useless if i can neither put music on it or take phones off it...
