Migrate to W 7 64 bit

Hello,
I am running my programs on W XP Home ed currently. I purchased a PC with Windows 7 running 64 bits.
Is migration of programs straightforward or do I need to do something special/fancy

many softwares might need you to use the 64bit version to be installed.
there are many application which would need you to check with their developers if they have a separate 64bit version.

else you can always use the program shortcut and run it in compatibility mode.
