Computer sound system problem

Hello,
i am looking to buy a logitech x-540 5.1 speaker system for my four month old dell inspiron 1750 laptop. but when i was looking at the setup an online review it told me to connect the sound card's green, black and yellow ports to the sub-woofer using the provided cable. now, obviously my laptop has a sound card but it doesn't have these ports. does this mean i have to spend aroun an extra £30 on an external one with these ports!?!?
